Motivation to compress bitmap font is to reduce data size for embedded micro controllers. (limited ROM) Modern high-spec computers generally have enough space to hold font data and are capable of render font bitmap through outlines, and do not need to compress rather lightweight bitmap font data. Bitmap font source is retrieved through BDF file. There are thousands of letters in chinese characters, so, plainly recording 16(width) 16(height) 6879(number of letters) requires 1761024bits = 220128bytes = 215KB Decoder program"s code size and processing costs should be reasonable and per letter compression is favorable as it will be used within micro-controller.
