CTBctb uses server-side and client-side code to allow for near-instant two way dialogue for users on the web to chat in-game in FFXI.
CTBctb was developed by Kriz (Valefor server) for his LS - CrimsonToothBrush
CTBctb was developed in June 2009, went live in July as part of Fine Color Day, and has had barely any downtime not related to SE.
CTBctb utilizes a combination of FFXI with Windower, running the third party program LogMod4 to gather logs.
The logs are handled by CTBctb via DOS batch scripts and AutoIT programs to upload the chat near-live to a server.
The server-side CTBctb component displays the chat live via AJAX, and allows posting back to FFXI.
The client-side CTBctb, in addition to uploading chat, checks for posts back from the server, handles them, and hands them off to arrive at FFXI.
