Quexcel is the project to create the APIs that would let enable to query the open xml formats with the SQL like query patterns.
It would include the support for DML queries (Select/Insert) and DDL queries (Update/Alter/Delete).
The later version may also utilize more powers of excel i.e. you could also format the data while inserting. The syntax for which is still to be decided. But this is the path on which it would grow further.
