idealised two layer model with boussinesq approximation, vertically integrated with free surface to simulate idealised problems of circulation of a two layer stratified fluid (oceanic large scale or estuarine system)
horizontal advection is currently calculated with simple upstream based advection schemes. horizontal diffusion is included as well as coriolis force and internal and external (baroclinic and barotropic) pressure gradients.
the mixing/entrainment (mixing of ligher surface water into the dense bottom water) is parameterised via an empiric formula calculating the amount of entrainment as a function of velocity, layer thickness, rotational forces and density difference between upper and lower layer (Arneborg et al. 2007).
