Next generation telephony applications will be based on Sip Servlet. The execution environment for such applications is the Sip Servlet Container. Today, there are a number of commercial and open source J2EE containers that have been extended to support the specific requirements for Sip Servlets. The extension of the J2EE container to support Sip Servlets allows application developers to “enjoy” a very wide set of services starting from simple services as redundant database connections up to very complicated services among them transaction support, clustering of services, distribution of tasks and automatic replication and failover.
