I am a long time programmer and have recently made a Minecraft server for my cousin and his friends on the Amazon EC2 cloud cluster. Before we even launched I had in place a back-up script to save the world to a raid array every 12 hours.
After about 2 months I got an e-mail stating that someone had came onto the server and changed all the blocks in the world to ice and everyone was generally upset.
Thanks to the back-ups, I had the entire world back to normal within 10 minutes, except that they were missing about 5 hours worth work. From that point I fined tuned my script and changed it to backup the world every hour.
I would like to share the open-source, free to use single page script so that everyone else can have the security of knowing that though some butt-head will waste an hour destroying your world, that you only need to spend 5 min to get it back.
