In lieu of old-fashioned “firewalls,” Dr. von Ohm opted for “barriers,” physical manifestations of cyberspace. Unfortunately, Dr. von Ohm did not foresee that his product inexplicably provided for the creation of virtual machines which could traverse the Barrier because of its existence as a physical environment.
Under the new Barrier system, bandwidth is limited and Internet Protocol addresses are a valuable commodity. The denizens of the former Internet quickly built these virtual machines to steal each other’s information.
