EDIS is a web based Information system to collect and manage the clinical data pertaining to infectious diseases. It is developed using open source technologies and it will be dedicated to open source community as well. This system will be tested by using the real time clinical data of the emerging diseases like chikungunya in different parts of Tamilnadu and Kerala. The same system could be used for the other life threatening emerging diseases.
The EDIS System can be utilized by Public Health Administration agencies for the purpose of effectively managing and controlling the outbreaks of Highly infectious diseases. Any state in the country can utilize the system which can be adapted for any diseases type. Successful implementation of this reporting system at the field level will provide adequate and valid data for decision making and in turn help to manage the large scale damages caused by emerging diseases.
