The application being developed as part of this project can be described as a generic component a transit authority can use to help visualize their transport network. The motivation for this project was driven by a number of factors.
Being a foreign student in Bristol, it has taken a long time to become familiar with the public transport network, and in fact I still find it rather daunting task to try and find the quickest route to a given destination within the city. When living in Vienna, Austria, the way information of transport data was presented and its availability on the internet made using the public transport simple, and one is easily able to travel around the city confidently. In stark contrast to this the availability of information about the transit network in Bristol is inaccurate, unreliable, and difficult to decipher, and, especially when a journey requires a number of changes, it is often easier just to walk to your destination.
