With the deployment of IPv6, several ISPs have decided to go for 6RD ("IPv6 Rapid Deployment"), a modified version of 6to4 in order to provide easily IPv6 service to residential customers without having to update the complete access/aggregation networks. Known ISPs are :
- Free (France, 2009)
- Softbank (Japan, 2010)
- Comcast (USA, 2011)
- Swisscom (Switzerland, 2011)
The code contained in this repository is intented to help people using 6rd at home if they cannot (or don"t wan"t to) use the residential gateway as a 6rd tunnel endpoint.
6RD was initially developped by Rémi Després (RFC 5569), and has been re-standardized in RFC 5969.
6RD tunneling is supported in Linux since 2.6.33.
