A tool that could create an abstract package tree in a distribution-independent manner that can implement a variety of package management systems in package creation would be a true asset to Linux system administrators.
Ideally, such a solution would be written in a language that system administrators already know or that is widely used in other system scripts that they have to maintain and retain platform and distribution independence, while implementing back-end packaging conventions for a slew of distributions.
Such a solution should include both a command-line utility and a graphical wizard front-end for rapid and powerful deployment.
