MetExtract is a new software tool for scientists working with stable isotopic labelling and high resolution liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. It extracts important metabolite information using mass to charge difference between non labelled (natural) and stable isotopically labelled (labelled) samples originating from the same organism. The organism of interest are grown twice under identical environment conditions. However, in the second nutrition source all atoms of a certain element are predominantly replaced with one of its stable isotopes. Therefore, all metabolites produced from the organism grown on the second nutrition source have to have a different m/z value when compared to the native forms which are expressed from the organism grown on the first nutrition source. The two organism extracts are the measured in a 1:1 (v:v) ratio mixture using high resolution liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. Depending on the labelling element (e.g. carbon) chromatography will n
