This project is based on the ideas and code for the fractal flames algorithm, originally written by Scott Draves. Dr. Orion Lawlor implemented a clever solution to render them in real-time on the GPU by using function inverses. This project aims to provide a reusable design so that fractal flames can be used in a variety of settings.
The initial effort will be to get a demo working in Visual Studio 2010. If there is interest, we can work on making it cross platform.
The ultimate effort will be to gain a greater understanding of the algorithm and enhance it in various ways. Ideally it should render moving images as closely as possible to the original fractal flames algorithm, but in real-time.
Help is needed from people who have a good understanding of these areas of software and math.
A fairly modern video card is required. It"s initially being tested with an nVidia GeForce GTX 460 with 1GB of RAM.
