The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh (CMP), located on Pittsburgh’s Northside,
has a mission; “to nurture children’s innate joy, creativity, and curiosity…
provide developmentally appropriate exhibits, programs, and opportunities
for play both inside and outside the museum.” This involves creating an educational resource by using exhibits and programs to present learning opportunities in attractive, non-didactic, non-threatening ways.
When the CMP’s goal is to provide opportunities for “imagination and discovery” with taking children and their families seriously, the CMP has a view point of the museum as an art and cultural institution as well as an educational one.
For those reasons, the CMP core values are materialized by the SysHigh product – Airplane Station, which is reflected throughout facilities, in its exhibits and its programs as well as in the design of the museum itself. The Airplane Station focuses on family and child centered development, collaboration,
