ECHAM is an atmospheric general circulation model developed by the Max-Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, Germany. It computes atmospheric dynamics and thermal-dynamics. The computations are carried out on model levels. The afterburner, named "after" converts model level to pressure level, and adds a few derived variables. This project, after2, aims at providing another afterburner for ECHAM, with the focus of eddy diagnostics. It requires the input to be the model output processed by "after", and calculates some eddy variables such as eddy heat, momentum, vorticity fluxes, as well as eddy kinetic energy, Eady growth rate, and diabatic heating rate. In fact, as long as the input data are on pressure levels and have (possibly a subset of) the required variables, after2 can be used to calculate eddy diagnostics as well, not restricted to "afterburned" ECHAM output.
