JAKE mini-sensor pack for mobile spatial interaction experiments
JAKE is a compact (dimensions just 31x18x10mm, weight is approx 7g) wireless device that provides acceleration, magnetic field and temperature sensing. Combined, these provide the information necessary to calculate compass heading. JAKE was designed to be a tool to aid researchers in HCI develop and experiment with new interaction techniques, such as gesture recognition and pointing interaction. The accelerometers are dual range types, the default range is +/-2g which is ideal for compassing applications. For applications that require sensing of large swing accelerations such as for certain forms of gesture recognition, the accelerometers can be configured in software for +/-6g measurement range. JAKE connects using a Bluetooth serial port profile and allows for up to seven JAKE’s to be connected to one host computer. This provides the possibility to track the movement of multiple limbs or node
