Asthma management guidelines recommend a school asthma action plan for the asthmatic children, including both monitoring of disease activity with peak flow meter and providing specific asthma care instructions.
Comprehensive school-based asthma programs regularly incorporate Peak Flow Meter (PFM) into their asthma action plans. However, both school nurses and parents reported that the ability of the schools to supervise the care of asthmatic children is insufficient. Schools do not have enough staff to accommodate the needs of children with asthma. Indeed, children’s ability to use PFM and to administer medication becomes important for asthma management. Although PFM presents objective level of asthma, difficulty in main-taining adherence and the lack of knowledge on using peak flow meter have been investigated as serious problems.
