The Integrated Digital Special Collections (INDI) is a software program being developed in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections to manage all of the steps necessary to acquire and care for archival materials. The steps involved in acquiring and caring for archival materials include: appraisal (assessing the value of archival material), acquisition (acquiring ownership rights to archival materials), accessioning (documenting the acquisition of archival materials), processing (rehousing, organizing, describing archival materials) and reference (granting access to archival materials). Associated activities included labeling, shelving, tracking locations, microfilming, conservation work, digitization, etc. The INDI software program is being developed to restructure procedures and increase productivity to meet the demands of a rapidly changing academic market.
