Abstration
Since the vendor is getting infreqntly to provide updates, the project mainly intends to enhance the stability and compatibility with new kernel and give as many as possible documents about all its capabilities.
Device introduction
ZD1211 was original invented by ZyDAS, a subsidiary of ZyXEL communications in Taiwan.
ZD1211 is a IEEE 802.11 compliant device. With different RF, it supports 80211abg or 80211bg. Its successor is ZD1211B.
Most products in the market work in 80211bg only.
Later on, Atheros communications acquire ZyDAS and rename ZD1211B as AR2524 (80211bg) and AR5524 (80211abg).
