RICORDO is an international project aiming at developing a framework for supporting interoperability between VPHDMs. One of our objectives is to address the lack of consistent structured annotation of data that can be processed by machines. The unstructured annotations make it difficult to share the body of knowledge contained in the different types of data and models relevant to the VPH community. Against this background, moreover, as the biological concepts covered in the VPHDM span across multiple ontologies, a further objective is to address the lack of formal definition for integrating terms from multiple ontologies which would facilitate the consistent communal annotation of VPHDM. Finally, an overarching objective is to secure a communal infrastructure able to use standardized and interoperable annotations so as to allow for exchanging and querying VPHDM.
