About “Push”
Push is part of the family of tic-tac-toe type games that includes Tic-Tac-Toe (Naughts and
Draughts) and Connect Four.
In Push, there are two players, X (shown here as red) and O (black). X always goes first. The
board is an N x N grid (for now, we’ll consider N=4). During each player’s turn, they have the
option of “pushing” their piece onto the top or bottom (T or B) of a column or the left or right (L
or R) of a row. Any existing pieces on the board are shifted down (if T), up (if B), left (if R) or
right (if L). If the row or column is filled, the piece at the opposite edge falls off and is out of
play.
