I needed to make educational materials for 8th grade students and wrote up a script to simulate Restriction Length Fragment Polymorphisms (RFLP) and Short Tandem Repeats (STR) data. Students were tasked with finding matches between DNA samples.
Input loci (names, repeat length) with their affiliated alleles (repeat copy number). The script displays or outputs an electrophoregram (simulated from Southern Blot w/ 2 probes or PCR) with a DNA ladder and 4 samples (DNA from a crime scene and 3 suspects).
User can also simulate two suspects being the parents of individual that contributed the crime scene DNA.
Requires: matplotlib, numpy, and python2.6
