The viewpoint method facilitates the manipulation of symbolic music data (e.g. computer-encoded musical scores). The method enables the expression of viewpoints, which transform scores into simpler, more abstract data streams that are typically more suitable for data mining, machine learning and computer-assisted musical analysis.
By providing user-friendly ways to define, reuse and combine viewpoints, the method enables researchers to quickly and easily capture important knowledge about the musical data at hand.
Over the last 15 years, the method and it"s usefulness for data mining and computational musicology has been thoroughly explored in multiple academic publications.
This project develops a user-friendly implementation of the method by building on the success of music21, a python-based computer-aided musicology toolkit.
