Using the Falstad Circuit simulator (http://www.falstad.com/circuit), which requires a Java compatible web browser).
This simulation illustrates how a 3x4 (three columns, four rows) matrix keypad can be decoded so that each key has its own output pin.
This circuit uses "OR" logic gates to generate Active LOW outputs (each output is normal HIGH).
