Bit Torrent is nowadays a major medium of content distribution. Whenever it is mainly used for filesharing, it is also used for content distribution. The aim of this project is to measure a bit-torrent P2P network from inside. It will consist of instrumenting an open-source implementation of a torrent client (eventually azureus) by adding some components for measuring metrics of interest.
Thereafter we will launch a measurement campaign with the aim of characterizing BitTorrent transfer. The final goal of this project is to validate if a solution based on P2P diffuse could ultimately leverage the problem generated by the BBC iPlayer on ISPs (see references)
