mondate
mondate is an R package that keeps track of dates in terms of months. It can be useful for anyone who needs to coordinate results with the business/accounting conventions month-, quarter-, and year-end close.
The main advantages of using mondate for dates are
1. Built-in conformance with the close-of-business-day convention
1. Well defined difference-in-time ("difftime") calculations in units of "months" and "years"
1. Date format flexibility -- dates may be entered and stored in formats other than the POSIX standard YYYY-MM-DD (e.g., U.S. formats such as MM/DD/YYYY are recognized and can be used interchangeably)
1. Dimensionality ("dim" and "dimnames" attributes)
mondate identifies a day period-of-time with the instant the day ends ("close of business"); a month period-of-time with the last day of the month
