Simi is a Java web application that provides browser access to server files and command-line applications. Principally, it provides an R language environment to an authenticated user. Authentication, persistent files, and a persistent R session distinguish Simi from other R web-based software. Unlike local installations of R, Simi requires no software configuration except a javascript-enabled browser. Simi allows its implementers to expose a consistent, well-characterized software system to a diverse group of users.
Simi also introduces R Server Pages (RSP). An extension of Java Server Pages technology, RSP lets web page authors to embed native R code. With persistent R sessions, RSP supports the creation of full-featured interactive pages that harness the power of R. Users can create simple R applications with minimal training.
